STOLEN KISSES /
KOBOLAT MASROKA
NY PREMIERE
A strong portrayal of nine Egyptians in their twenties. Director Khaled El Hagar sketches a picture of modern Cairo by focusing on themes such as family conflicts, unemployment, sexual frustration, prostitution and violence, themes which are rarely touched upon in Egypt. By not deviating too much from normal Egyptian films, this film has set off many heated discussions in its own country including some death threats posted on some fanatics' websites. Winner 8 International acting awards at Alex International Film Festival. Khaled El Hagar, 2009, 120min, Egypt, drama in Arabic with English subtitles.
